Our story

At Wanderlust Journeys, our path has been shaped by slow travel through the Himalayas and the enduring friendships we found along the way.

Peter's Path

Peter’s journey began in 1985 after weeks exploring the remote regions of Zanskar, Ladakh and Kashmir. Stranded in Lhasa, Tibet, with no easy way home — and guided by the generosity of local Tibetan friends — he helped organise a route out for 23 fellow travellers. That rugged, unforgettable crossing to Kathmandu lit a spark. It showed him that meaningful, community-centred travel was not only possible, but something he felt deeply called to create.

Over the years, Peter returned to the Himalayas again and again. He walked high passes with Tibetan traders and their yaks, trekked through deep snow in the high mountains, and sat beside midnight fires in Bhutan watching ancient rituals unfold. Everywhere he travelled, he sought out moments where locals and visitors could truly connect. From this passion he created Trek Nepal, a small company offering meaningful Himalayan journeys. When Nepal’s civil war began, he made the difficult decision to close the company, but his bond with the region never faded.

Kristy's Path

Kristy began her travels with an archaeology degree and a love of discovering how people live, celebrate and share their stories. Her first journey took her into the backwaters of Sumatra, where she stayed in small villages that had rarely seen a Western traveller, forming friendships that stayed with her for life.

When she finally reached Nepal, Kristy felt instantly at home. The colour, vibrancy and energy of the Himalayas drew her in. Her enthusiasm inspired those she travelled with, helping them see beyond the tourist veil and notice the small, extraordinary details that make each place come alive. With each return trip, she ventured further off the usual paths, forming genuine and lasting relationships.

Wanderlust Journeys

When Peter and Kristy met, they discovered a shared passion for the same kind of travel — journeys grounded in curiosity, cultural connection and genuine human warmth. With Peter’s years of Himalayan experience and Kristy’s infectious enthusiasm and thoughtful approach to travel, they realised they could create something meaningful together, and Wanderlust Journeys was born.

Our promise is simple:
